The
Lodi design illustrates styles of taller decorative poles representative
of ornamental lighting standards designed by Union Metal. As electric
lighting evolved in the 1930s and 1940s requiring higher mounting
heights, Union Metal’s manufacturing capabilities were also enhanced,
resulting in a line of taller ornamental poles utilizing various
shaft cross sections as well as new larger base castings and arm castings
designed to support pendant luminaires. Originally installed in Lodi,
California, this style represents the second generation of historic
ornamental lighting standards introduced by Union Metal to complement
the original ornamental post top lighting standards.
